The Columbus Futsal Club and the Columbus Nationwide Children’s Hospital announced a recent partnership amidst the growing popularity of futsal in Columbus. Columbus futsal is taking off in Columbus and it brings an international flavor with it. Several members of the Columbus Futsal Club are international in origin, and come from nations where futsal is extremely popular as a form of soccer.
One of the largest contingents of futsal players hail from Brazil and the sport is very popular in Columbus’ sister city of Curitiba. GCSCI is always looking for ways to connect through sport and cultural exchanges. The connection with futsal presents valuable opportunities for GCSCI and for the Columbus Futsal Club.
Malissa Galiffo is the President of Columbus Futsal and has overseen the rapid growth in the area over the last few years. She believes it can become even bigger in Columbus and in the United States as a whole. The Club offers programs for a variety of ages and skill levels, and believes that the sport has a distinct opportunity to foster international connection in the Greater Columbus region.
There also exists a professional team under the Columbus Futsal Club that competes with teams from cities statewide and across the country.
Galiffo stated, “Our international relationships are incredibly important to our sport and the growth of it in Columbus and across the country. Futsal is fast, exciting, and it is an incredible way to connect due to the amount of teamwork that is required. Come check us out!”
