Ohio State Professor Marcello Canova Wins Pesto Championship

In a heated Pesto Championship at the 2017 Columbus Italian Festival, Marcello Canova emerged among the competitors as the Columbus Pesto Champion. Columbus hosted judges from our sister city of Genoa, Italy, as well as city leaders to figure out the best of the pesto. Each contestant was given the traditional ingredients and had 30 minutes to make their pesto.

In winning the Championship, Marcello has earned his way to the 2018 World Pesto Championship in Genoa. He will be representing Columbus in the World Championship on March 17, 2018! Marcello is a professor in Mechanical and Aerospace engineering at The Ohio State University.

Genoa was Columbus’ first sister city, establishing Greater Columbus Sister Cities International and the beginning to the city’s now ten sister city relationships. Best of luck to Marcello next Spring as he takes on the best in the world!
