Are you a runner? Do you enjoy learning about other cultures and sharing your own?
Greater Columbus Sister Cities International (GCSCI), partnering with Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon and Dresden Sister City, Inc., is once again hosting the Sister Cities Marathon Exchange program. This program is intended to promote international exchange by sending local runners to represent Columbus as Cultural Ambassadors to run a half or full marathon in either the Dresden, Germany; Hefei, China; or Curitiba, Brazil. This is the eighth year that Columbus is participating in this exchange with Dresden, and the fifth year for Curitiba and Hefei. The dates for these exchanges are:
Dresden Marathon and Half Marathon: Thursday, October 24 – Tuesday, October 29
Hefei International Marathon: Wednesday, November 6 – Monday, November 11
Maratona Curitiba: Wednesday, November 13 – Monday, November 11
This isn’t just a race! This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to represent Columbus as a cultural ambassador in a foreign country and create meaningful, lasting connections. If selected for this opportunity, free race entry, homestay with a local host family, transportation on marathon weekend and a reception will be provided.
Participants must have a valid passport, be able to obtain any necessary visa (China and Brazil), and have the ability to pay for airfare and incidental costs.
Deadline to apply is Friday, May 31, 2019. Applications will be reviewed and finalists may be asked for a phone or in person interview.
All questions and concerns can be sent to Dorit Fratzscher at firstname.lastname@example.org (for Dresden) or Sameen Dadfar at email@example.com (for Curitiba and Hefei).
